From Worry to Worship: Finding God's Peace Through Prayer

John Holmes

Christians are called to take responsibility for their needs and their families' well-being while showing care and concern for others. However, they are not to be consumed by worry or anxiety. Jesus instructs His followers In Matthew 6:25–34 not to worry about their lives—what they will eat or drink, their bodies, or the future. He reminds them that worrying cannot add a single moment to their lives. The Philippians were likewise encouraged not to be anxious about anything because God held them securely, regardless of their circumstances. Worry is harmful because it undermines trust in God, and such thinking becomes sinful at some point. Why? Because when believers worry, they essentially express doubt in God’s ability to provide, care, or handle their situation(s). This lack of trust can lead to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, which result in inaction. However, Paul presents prayer as the antidote to worry, offering believers a way to bring their concerns before God and find peace in His care and provision.
