The Man Whom God Honors

Fellowship in the Philippian church was not about casual get togethers or surface-level friendships. It was a deep bond between those united by their commitment to following Christ—giving, suffering, and growing together in their faith. When Paul left Macedonia, it was only the Philippian church who joined in a partnership with him by giving and receiving (v. 4:15). The Philippians showed their fellowship with Paul by dispatching an envoy with Epaphroditus to make the 800-mile trek to Rome for paying Paul’s prison expenses and caring for his needs, as Roman prisons provided no basic necessities. In verses 2:25–30, we learn that Epaphroditus exemplifies selfless and sacrificial service, showing that God values and uses humble, faithful people to strengthen His church and further the gospel.

WHAT IS TRUE? WHAT TO DO? "Serve selflessly, trust God’s mercy, and honor the faithful."
