The Humble King: Heaven's View of Christmas

John Holmes

Recently, we studied this passage from Paul’s perspective as the author of this letter. Today, we will look from a divine perspective. From a divine perspective, Christmas reveals God’s redemptive plan for humanity. In an extraordinary display of love and humility, God’s Son, Jesus Christ, willingly left His place of eternal glory to enter the world as a helpless baby in a humble cradle. This was not a loss of glory but a profound revelation of God’s heart toward a broken and sinful world. In perfect obedience to the Father, Jesus embraced His mission, a mission that led Him from the cradle to the cross. He took on human form, humbled Himself, and accepted the suffering and death required to rescue sinners. He set aside His divine privileges and heavenly glory, took on human form, and humbled Himself to meet the needs of broken humanity—people like you and me—by dying on the cross. His sacrifice was not forced upon Him; it was a deliberate act of divine love to meet the deepest need of fallen humanity. Because of His humility and sacrifice, God the Father exalted Jesus to the highest place, giving Him the name above every name. Now, Jesus reigns as Lord over all creation. Christmas marks the great moment God’s love took on flesh and when His plan to redeem and restore His people was shown to all.
